"SNORKLE"

Steve From

  1. Steve From, a/k/a Snorkle, is a man of many talents

  2. from bullfighter and rodeo clown

  3. to author of the book, The Reincarnation of Bennett McKinney.

Steve was born in 1960 at Lodgepole, Nebraska where he attended Lodgepole Public Schools. He then went to Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming on a rodeo scholarship and a Speech & Theatre Scholarship but quit after one and a half years, when he decided to take up rodeoing as career.

He started riding bulls in 1975 at the age of 15 in Ogallala, Nebraska. The second bull he rode stomped on his chest, broke his collarbone and three ribs, but Steve still continued to ride bulls for 22 years. But, as Steve would tell you, he "never did much good."

He got the opportunity to fight bulls at age 27 in Queensland, Australia. He was over there rodeoing, dead broke, when he became friends with a bullfighter who needed a partner, so Steve jumped in with him and has been fighting bulls ever since.

People say Snork gets kinda crazy, but actually crazy is a relative term - all of his relatives agree that he's crazy! Steve From, or "Snorkle" as they call him, (why do they call him Snorkle? Why, it's as plane (plain?) as the nose on his face...) has had 18 years experience as a rodeo clown and bullfighter, leaving his brain just "rattled" enough to look at life differently, but not quite enough to make him a danger to society.

Steve has been a four-time Nebraska State Bullfighter of the Year and a three-time Kansas Professional Rodeo Association Bullfighter of the Year. He has also gone on to do some stand-up comedy and has worked at the Funny Bone Comedy Clubs in Omaha, Nebraska and Des Moines, Iowa, Standford and Son's Comedy Club in Kansas City, and is always a regular at the Touchdown Club in North Platte, Nebraska. Snorkle's latest adventure was traveling to New York City to appear at Caroline's Comedy Club in late March, where even his worst critics, his sisters, agreed that he was actually the funniest person on the stage that night (based on actually video footage). (Yeah, Snork, we're proud of you but hate to admit it...)

One of Snork's biggest thrills in life was publishing his book called The Reincarnation of Bennett McKinney. Based on most of his cowboy relatives and friends, it's a true portrait of life as a modern-day rodeo performer and cowboy. Snorkle has plans for turning the book into a movie, and judging by his former pursuits, it'll probably happen, since he even has the actors picked out already.

If you get a chance to see this funny person, you won't regret it. Steve really does live by the theme of his book - "I ain't here for a long time, I'm just here for a good time."

The Reincarnation of Bennett McKinney

Don't let the title fool you. The Reincarnation of Bennett McKinney is a cowboy book. Don't let that fool you, either. This is a powerful novel of life lived to the fullest in twentieth-century America. The novel follows the adventures of five young cowboys on the rodeo circuit, starting in a Rapid City motel room and ending in a dingy, high plateau bunkhouse. In between, the reader experiences the exhilaration, danger, and sometimes pain and injury of being launched into the arena on the back of 2000 pounds of aggression. The tranquil interludes - a roundup and calf-branding in the Rocky Mountain foothills, family visits, and even a rodeo school - provide brief respite from the hard work, excitement and danger keeping the reader on the edge of the chair to the very last word.

Steve From started riding bulls at age 15 in Ogallala, Nebraska. The author sums up his experience: "Second bull stomped on my chest and broke my collarbone and three ribs. Rode for 22 years (never did much good). Started fighting bulls at 27 in Queensland, Australia. I was over there rodeoing, dead broke, when a bullfighter from there I'd become friends with needed a partner so I jumped in with him. Been fighting ever since."

From the book, The Reincarnation of Bennett McKinney
